Thomas Ruggie builds a legacy through big goals and even bigger expectations
Destiny Family Office founder expands access to private market investments
Thomas Ruggie, ChFC®, CFP® spent 2025 and 2026 redefining what alternative investment access looks like for high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients.
As founder and CEO of Destiny Family Office, he started his financial career 35 years ago with “big dreams and bigger expectations.” Today, Tom has built one of the country’s premier wealth management organizations, comprised of two independent RIAs, a multi-family office, multiple wealth management firms, alternative investment funds, a co-investment fund, and other privileged investment initiatives designed to address the unique needs of UHNW individuals and families.
He is a respected authority in alternative investments who earned rare distinction as the InvestmentNews Advisor of the Year – Alternative Investments in 2025 and 2026. Tom is growing his practice on the belief that alternatives are no longer a supplemental piece of the modern portfolio, but a foundational one.
Known for providing Qualified Purchasers (QP) access to private, mid- to late-stage, pre-IPO, direct and co-investment opportunities in hard-to-access companies such as SpaceX, xAI, Anduril, Anthropic, Databricks, Open AI, Agility, Whoop, and other innovators and industry disruptors, Toms’ ability to secure access for clients to these deals speaks to the depth of the relationships he’s built within this space.
Central to his success is the network of QPs he has built and the platform he has created for them, called Destiny Access, which provides ongoing market intelligence and Tom’s perspectives on curated private, direct, and alternative investment opportunities.
Destiny Family Office grew its QP base by 50 percent in 2025, adding more than 80 UHNW individuals and families. Tom keeps that community engaged through his Significance of Wealth podcast, which has featured guests such as InvestmentNews global managing editor James Burton, and AJ Scaramucci, who made international headlines by acquiring the ultra-rare Pikachu Pokémon card for a record-breaking $16.5 million.
An avid collector himself, Tom has become a leading voice on the role of cultural capital in wealth strategy and helps clients weave passion assets into broader wealth strategies. He founded a collector network within TIGER 21 and launched the Significant Collector newsletter last year. In 2026, his '52 Autographed Topps set of baseball cards was named by Collectors (PSA) as the 2026 Baseball Set of the Year from more than 157,000 registered sets.
Tom travels extensively to meet clients face to face, as his goal is to do great things with great people.
Other recognition has followed. Forbes ranked Tom #2 among its Best-in-State Wealth Advisors in North Florida in 2025 and 2026, and ranked Destiny Wealth Partners, another RIA founded by Tom, among America’s Top 250 Advisory Firms. InvestmentNews named Tom among its Top Financial Professionals in 2026, and Barron’s has included him among the nation’s Top 1,200 Advisors 14 times.
Last year, he authored or was featured in more than 20 articles in outlets including Forbes, Kiplinger, and InvestmentNews.
Driven by the need to never be complacent, Tom created Destiny Intelligence in 2026, an internal division to build purpose-built artificial intelligence tools for his firms and the broader wealth advisory sector.
Making his mark on the alternative revolution and staying at the forefront of AI are merely the latest expressions of his drive.
